Freddy started his sporting career as a promising middle-distance runner and was on scholarship with the University of Oregon when an injury led him to take up cycling as rehab.
After noticing a natural ability to get uphill quickly, Freddy made the switch to cycling. He had a huge season with ACA in 2018, where his results included a top ten finish overall in the Herald Sun Tour, 2nd in the Tour of Okinawa, and consistently placed strongly in the Tour of Qinghai Lake. He rode as a stagiare for BMC Pro Racing for the second half of 2018 where he rode the Tour of Utah and Japan Cup alongside some of the world’s best riders.
