The Australian Cycling Academy is a Continental Professional team and cycling development program based on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, founded by former professional cyclists Ben Kersten and Matt Wilson.
Our ethos is 'creating a better future for Australian cyclists, on and off the bike'. With the ACA, athletes have the unique opportunity to live, learn and ride. We believe this creates better outcomes for our athletes, and a brighter future for our sport.
With a focus on wellbeing and environmental sustainability, the ACA is a socially aware and community engaged team. We value life balance, hard work and loving what you do, and believe that a positive team culture is the best platform for success.
What we do
The journey for the ACA started with a vision to provide young cyclists with the best environment to reach their potential in cycling and beyond. The ACA's athlete-centric model integrates high-performance, tertiary study and professional mentoring, from a single hub at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
As part of the ACA-Ride Sunshine Coast Continental Professional team, riders compete in a comprehensive national and international racing program, delivering high-level race experience for athletes. We are committed to providing a genuine pathway to professional cycling.
From the Sunshine Coast base, the ACA also operates full-service training camps, online coaching, a schools education initiative and a mentoring and scholarship program.
The ACA’s alignment with the University of the Sunshine Coast’s High-Performance Sports Precinct offers athletes an integrated approach to training and studying. ACA athletes have full access to USC’s world-class facilities.
The ACA’s tertiary scholarship program, run in coordination with USC, aligns young athletes with professional mentors, and assists athletes with the costs of tertiary study.
With ideal geography and climate, and a reputation as one of the sporting capitals of Australia, the Sunshine Coast provides the perfect backdrop for the program and the team’s ethos of balancing hard work with a healthy lifestyle.
Mentoring & Scholarship Program
Open to corporate sponsors or individuals, the Australian Cycling Academy Mentoring & Scholarship Program allows a sponsor to join as a Platinum or Support Partner. The program funds go directly towards supporting the athlete with the costs associated with tertiary education and their competition schedule.
For the athlete, the mentoring program will create a link between the sporting world and the world of professional employment. This will give the athlete greater understanding of a life beyond the bike, and help set them up for their future beyond cycling.
The sponsor will have the opportunity for community engagement at the grassroots level of cycling, and the chance to help a young athlete achieve their dreams on and off the bike. They will also gain visibility across ACA related marketing material, as well as access to team experiences such as corporate rides and events, team launches, VIP experiences at competitions, complimentary team clothing and discounted equipment.
